Richelle mead iron crowned6/7/2023 Jasmine really starts to come around in this book and I am starting to actually like her. But I hate when one can't decide and ping-pongs her affections the way Eugenie is! Outside of the romantic aspects of this book, Eugenie is trying to one up Katrice of Rowan Land and the rumored Iron Crown might be the answer. Now I can deal with the love triangles where they like each other but don't act much on it. After basically abandoning her in the past book, she goes to him in an an insta-switch moment after she feels Dorian tricked her. Kiyo the kitsune, father Queen Maiwenn's daughter, sexy and very anti-war. While she starts of with smooth, dominant, hot, and somewhat manipulative Dorian, she switches (yet AGAIN) back to Kiyo. It's no wonder her judgement slips some in this book.Yes, it slips. Bills must be paid after all! I do not think I could handle the dual life. And she still has to manage her Earthly job, banishing and dealing with unwanted visitors. ***Please note if you have not read the previous two books of the series I suggest doing so before reading further to avoid past spoilers.***Working with her current lover, King Dorian, along with her advisors Shaya and Rurik, Eugenie is trying to manage the war with minimal damage. Review 1: Eugenie Markham is quite the kick-butt heroine! She is queen of the Thorn Land, half-human, half-fae and she is in the middle of a huge war with The Rowan Land. Mo willems monster book6/7/2023 Ilene Cooper Copyright 2005 Booklist From Booklist, Copyright (c) American Library Association. A winner for story hours, with plenty of discussion possibilities. Sam and Leonardo take up very little room on the large pages the old-fashioned lettering dominates the expanse of color. This oversize book uses thick paper in the colors of a desert sunset. After thinking it over, Leonardo decides to move from terrible monster to wonderful friend. But on a clever double-page spread, Willems lists the real reasons Sam is crying, starting with My mean big brother stole the action figure out of my hands and ending with a bird's pooping on Sam's head. He finds Sam, who seems an easy mark and bursts into tears. He gets an idea: find the most scaredy-cat kid in the world and scare the tuna salad out of him. Small, with big blue eyes, a blue tongue, and a furry body, Leonardo looks like a tiny, unassuming brother of a Wild Thing. Leonardo is supposed to be a terrible monster, but he's just terrible at his monsterly craft. Your Pal, Mo Willems, as the cover reads, offers a simple message-driven story, elevated by a smart, striking design. Little women book6/6/2023 In addition to the path of a woman in the world of movie-making, Gerwig inscribes another personal theme: the relationship of an artist to her family. In short, a time very much like today in Hollywood. In this way, Gerwig’s “Little Women” is the tale of the birth of an artist-a female artist at a time that’s hostile to women and the telling of stories of women’s lives from women’s point of view. Namely, in Gerwig’s thrillingly bold reconfiguration of “Little Women,” the writing of the novel is built into the story-and the author isn’t Alcott but the novel’s protagonist, Jo March (played by Saoirse Ronan). It’s odd to begin a review of a movie based on a work as familiar as “ Little Women” with a warning about spoilers, but one of the most original inspirations that Greta Gerwig, as writer and director, brings to her adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel is a conceit that needs to be revealed in order to make sense of the movie at all. Ali hazelwood love on the brain6/6/2023 And the possibilities have all her neurons firing. Perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but Bee could swear she can see Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. Now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and Bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school-archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward. Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project-a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia-Marie would accept without hesitation. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new STEMinist rom-com in which a scientist is forced to work on a project with her nemesis-with explosive results. Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick6/6/2023 What’s Next: The second book in the Ashes Trilogy, Shadows, was released in Fall of 2012 and the third book, Monster, is scheduled to be released in September 2013. But, it is a page turner with suspense around every corner and definitely one of the best books I have read in a while (I would rate it up there with The Hunger Games). Warning: This book is full of blood and guts and even some cannibalism. Tom, Ellie and Alex must fight for survival in a new world and the adventures only begin with these characters. They also discover that the “zap” has caused most teenagers to turn zombie like and go on killing sprees. Her journey after the “zap” brings new discoveries as she travels with two other survivors (Tom: a war veteran and Ellie: an 8 year old whose grandfather died after the zap) and they deduce that the “zap” must have been some sort of EMP (electromagnetic pulse) explosion. She starts to believe otherwise when she discovers that those around have had the same experience and some are even dead. Four days into her trip, Alex is suddenly struck with an excruciating pain which she initially believes to be caused by the brain tumor that has been slowly killing her. Alex has actually fled and also is hiking with the wild with her dead moms and dads ashes, ready to bid farewell to the life. Told from her point of view, Ashes tells the story of Alex and those she encounters in the Waucamaw Wilderness of Michigan. Alex, a seventeen year old traipsing through the wilderness as she ventures to spread her parent’s remains in Lake Superior, discovers a lot more than she bargained for. Inside Oscar 2 by Damien Bona6/5/2023 (Yes, it was on behalf of Anne Bancroft-but that was just a technicality in the Machiavellian movie star’s mind.) To quote Hedda Hopper in her post-Oscars column: “When it comes to giving or stealing a show, nobody can top Joan Crawford.” Not only did Crawford get the outcome she wanted-a win for anyone but Davis-but in the end, it was Crawford who took the Oscar stage to accept the best-actress award. On Sunday’s episode of Feud, Ryan Murphy kicked his burgeoning Joan Crawford-Bette Davis rivalry up to the screaming crescendo that was the 1963 best-actress race-when Davis earned an Oscar nomination for What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Crawford, her snubbed co-star, channeled her jealousy into the kind of scorched-earth Oscar campaign that would make Harvey Weinstein swell with pride. The list book siobhan vivian6/5/2023 I did think the ending could have packed more of a punch but on the whole this book was really interesting and thought-provoking as well as being entertaining and surprisingly heart-wrenching.Īn intense look at the rules of high school attraction – and the price that’s paid for them. I loved that so many different aspects of this were touched on with many different characters, all of which were engaging and interesting. This book, while appearing to be simply light-hearted on the surface, mentioned some extremely important points surrounding women’s struggles and the whole concept of what is ‘beautiful’ in society. After reading it, however, I was remarkably surprised – I ended up enjoying it a heck of a lot more than I thought I would. I had heard of the author although I hadn’t heard of this specific book and fancied another contemporary book but I had absolutely no expectations going into it. To be perfectly honest, pretty much the only reason that I picked this book up was because it was buy one get one half price at my local book store. |
